Memories of Tomorrow
The historic Capitol Theatre Building in Shanghai has been revitalized with an immersive installation titled “Memories of Tomorrow”
In collaboration with TRLab and Rockbund Art Museum. This project transforms the iconic 1920s cinema into a profound exploration of perception, memory, and the digital age. Through spatial performances meticulously crafted by Ezequiel Pini, the exhibition delves into the interplay of light, shadow, symmetry, and geometry within the architectural space.
Drawing inspiration from Shanghai’s golden era and the current omnipresence of technology, “Memories of Tomorrow” reflects on the fluidity of time and its impact on our experiences. The exhibition’s four acts, each corresponding to a quarter of the clock, weave together digital narratives that blur the boundaries between reality and illusion.
Act II, “Espejos (Reflection),” invites viewers into a world of mirrored spaces, where chairs symbolize waiting and reflection becomes a dialogue between physical and digital realities. Act III, “Paisajes (Nature),” transports audiences to surreal landscapes filled with personal touches and evocative still-life objects, juxtaposing elements of balance and symmetry with modern ruins. Act IV, “Lunas (The Moon),” explores gravity and physical space through dynamic lunar movements, creating an immersive experience filled with unexpected events.
“Eternal Wait,” a poignant component of the installation, centers around an empty chair filled with memories, hope, and loneliness, inviting contemplation on the passage of time and the anticipation of connection. Similarly, the symbolic significance of the table as a bridge between realities emphasizes themes of dimensionality, illusion, and infinitude, prompting viewers to navigate the space between presence and emptiness.
